WordPress or a custom website: the honest comparison
Published 25 October 2026 · 5 min
WordPress runs a huge part of the web, and custom sites are what we build. Here is the comparison without the sales pitch — including when WordPress is the right choice.

What WordPress does well
WordPress is fast to launch and cheap at the start. Thousands of themes and plugins mean a site can be online in days, and you can edit pages yourself without a developer.
For a simple blog, a small association, or a first site with a very tight budget, it is a reasonable choice.
Where WordPress costs you later
The problems appear after launch, and they are the same ones we see when clients come to us to rebuild:
- Speed: themes with 20 plugins often fail Google's mobile speed checks, which hurts your ranking
- Security: WordPress is the most attacked platform in the world; plugins must be updated every week
- Maintenance: someone must update WordPress, the theme and every plugin — or the site breaks or gets hacked
- Look-alike design: the same templates are used by thousands of other businesses
What a custom site does well
A custom site is built for your business only. It loads in under a second, passes Google's speed checks, has no plugin to hack, and looks like no other site.
It is also yours completely: no license, no theme author, no platform that can change its prices.
The honest price comparison
Over three years, the gap is smaller than it looks:
- WordPress: 3 000 – 8 000 DH to build, plus hosting, premium plugins and maintenance every year
- Custom showcase site: from 4 900 DH, hosting included, almost no maintenance needed
- Custom sites win on speed and SEO from day one — which is what brings visitors
How to decide
Choose WordPress if your budget is under 4 000 DH, you want to edit everything yourself, and speed is not critical. Choose a custom site if Google ranking, speed and a unique image matter to your business — or if you are tired of maintaining a WordPress site.
We build custom sites because speed and SEO are what bring our clients visitors. But if WordPress fits your situation better, we'll tell you — contact us for an honest answer.
